Running Start is a partnership program between colleges and high schools. Running Start students who are juniors or seniors in high school may take college-level courses that count toward both high school requirements and college degree requirements.
It is possible for a student to earn an associates degree at the same time they graduate from high school.
Running Start is a state legislated program allowing high school juniors and seniors to enroll in community college earning high school and college credit simultaneously. Tuition is free to Running Start students, but they are responsible for the cost of books and fees and must provide their own transportation.
Students may need a 2.0 - 2.5 GPA depending on the college. Applicants must take the college's entry test, Asset or Compass, when they apply and meet entry requirements. Applications are available in the Counseling and Guidance Office.
The Running Start program is available through all community colleges in Washington State, however the two closest community colleges to Sultan High School are Everett Community College and Cascadia Community College.
See your student's counselor for more information.
